Lady Gaga and Prince William come together to tackle mental health

Lady Gaga and Prince William have come together to with the aim of ending the “shame” of speaking out about mental illness. In a video posted on Lady Gaga’s YouTube channel, the pair speak in a FaceTime chat about the importance of speaking freely about mental health.

They teamed up after meeting as part of Time To Talk Day for the mental health charity Heads Together after Lady Gaga wrote a moving account of her struggles with PTSD on the Born This Way Foundation website.

She told Prince William: “It made me very nervous at first, for me waking up every day and feeling sad and going on stage is very hard to describe.

For his part, William said: “I read the open letter that you wrote and I thought it was incredibly moving. It was very brave of you to write down such personal feelings.”

Going on to praise her for speaking out, he said it was time that “everyone speaks up and really feels very normal [about mental health], it’s the same as physical health”.

He continued: ‘For me, the little bits that I’ve learnt so far is that it’s really important to have this conversation. You won’t be judged.

“It’s really important to break open that fear, and that taboo that will only lead to more problems down the line.”

Prince William and Lady Gaga have arranged to meet in October to continue with their campaign. She said: “We have to make the strongest, most relentless attempt to normalise mental health issue so that people feel they can come forward.”
